Deyvid Leandro is one of Brazil’s top “coffee makers,” professionals who, much like a winemaker, transform the realities of each coffee harvest into a unique portfolio of flavor profiles to meet ever-changing market demands. Playing a role in every part of the business, from seed to cup, Deyvid produces award-winning coffees at his family farm in Campos Altos as well as the dozens of other farms he manages in the Cerrado region. Recently, Deyvid added another trophy to his case by winning the Best of Cerrado regional competition, placing first in the Induced Fermentation category and pulling in a record breaking $101 per pound in the subsequent auction!

Like his competition winner, our featured microlot from Deyvid is Catuai 99, a relatively common cultivar seen all over Brazil, that has undergone extended fermentation and careful natural slow drying. Unlike the standard profile from the Carrado region, chocolatey and nutty, this coffee is bright and lively. Full of ripe berry and tropical fruit notes with a tinge of red wine acidity and a smooth, refreshing finish, it is a true testament to how a coffee in the hands of a skilled processing professional can transform from something common into something entirely unexpected.
