In 1993, Little City opened the doors to its now iconic coffeehouse in the shadows of the state capital in downtown Austin, Texas. Frequented by students, politicians, bike messengers, and Leslie, the Congress Avenue café was a community hub and one of Austin’s first coffee shops to focus on high-quality coffees.
When the café shut its doors after eighteen years in business, our passionate crew of coffee lovers was determined to keep Little City alive by continuing to source great coffee, roast it right here in Austin, and share it with our community. We believe that “everyone deserves a great cup of coffee,” and our blends, microlots, and cold brew can now be found in homes, coffee shops, restaurants, grocery stores, offices, breweries, food trucks, music venues, soccer stadiums, rock climbing gyms, and anywhere that Austinites gather to enjoy a great cup of coffee.
We travel the globe to partner directly with some of the world’s top coffee growers, bringing their best coffees to Austin, Texas, and freshly roasting them in small batches to share with you.
Quality & Freshness
Within Little City’s climate-controlled warehouse, our year-round blends and seasonal microlots are roasted fresh-to-order, and each batch is cupped by our team to ensure that the coffee reaches you at its full potential.
A Small, Passionate Crew of Coffee Lovers
A snowbird since 2012 and full-time Austinite since 2015, Matt got interested in coffee after taking a part-time barista position upon his move here. While working as Little City’s delivery driver, he quickly recognized our customers’ needs for reliable equipment service and quality technical support, leading him to help establish and run our in-house maintenance department. When he’s not tinkering, Matt is an avid rock climber and BMX rider.
Michelle has worked in coffee since 2005, when she opened a shop in her hometown of Rockport, Texas. After a stint on the east coast with Whole Foods Market, her desire to work with smaller, independent brands brought her back to Texas and eventually here to Little City. When she’s not out selling coffee and supporting our customers, she enjoys hanging out with her family, swimming, and singing—and she’s a big supporter of Austin FC soccer.
Retail Venues Manager
A seven-year Austinite from “everywhere,” Sarah manages our retail venue operations at The Catherine and two St. David’s locations. A service industry lifer, Sarah fell in love with coffee while working in restaurants during college before moving to Italy, where the baristas taught her to drink espresso like a local. While she always enjoys dialing in a new brew method, her favorite is still her vintage 1962 Corningware percolator.
Josh came to Austin from San Diego in 2005 to attend culinary school. After earning his degree, he landed at Central Market, where he helped establish the company’s house-roasted coffee program. This experience established his love of roasting and kick-started a career path that has led him to work with several respected names in the industry. Josh loves to eat, drink, cook, and travel. He’s also a huge Disney fan, sporting multiple Mickey Mouse tattoos.
With a background and degree in business finance, Bryan worked for large companies and ran his own small business before landing at Little City, where his eyes were opened, in his words, to “some of the best coffee in the world.” Bryan is a man of many hats, but is primarily responsible for running our finance and HR departments. In his free time he is an avid snowboarder, soccer player, and BBQ cook.
Director of Customer Experience
A native Texan, Daniel moved to Austin in the third grade and has been here on and off since 1983! Another service industry lifer, Daniel draws from his years of managing bars and restaurants to craft our customer experience and ensure that our wholesale, retail, and home-delivery customers are provided with quality products and exceptional service. He enjoys swimming, hiking, playing guitar, and stargazing.
Born and raised in the Midwest, Joel developed a love for coffee while living in Brazil in the early 90’s. He moved back to Brazil in 2014 to pursue a master’s degree in Agricultural Engineering, specializing in post-harvest coffee processing. In addition to his support of our Little City team, Joel is a post-harvest processing consultant, a Q Arabica, Q Robusta, and Q Processing instructor, and has authored several texts on coffee processing. He enjoys cooking and gardening and is an avid soccer fan and supporter of Grêmio and Austin FC.
Director of Coffee & Tea
A former beer brewer and bar owner, Eric was originally tapped to help establish our nitro cold brew program. This sparked a new interest in coffee that would see him jump the craft beer ship and join Little City full-time. He now serves as our Director of Coffee and is primarily responsible for green coffee sourcing, quality control, and new product development. He is a food and beverage junkie who loves to travel, learn, and taste new things.
The farms and growers we partner with are some of the best in the world. We’ve been traveling to origin for decades, meeting growers and visiting farms. We develop personal relationships with the growers we work with and pay them fair prices.
