When Costa Rica was hit by an earthquake in 2008, the Chacon family was in the middle of that year's harvest. They were left with no water or power. The Chacon's decided to continue harvesting without water and use the process African and Brazilian producers have traditionally used, the dry process. With that shift, Don Oscar Chacon became one of the first Central American growers to offer high-quality honey and dry process coffees. Since then, he has risen to prominence as a specialty coffee producer and Las Lajas has been revered for it's micro lots.
Located in the Central Valley region of Costa Rica, Don Oscar’s lots are fully traceable, down to the day. Dried on raised beds instead of patios the Perla Negra is unique amongst Chacon's coffees. This dry process coffee features intense cherry and strawberry fruit and a clean, chocolatey, sweet finish.
