At over 3,800 meters, Mount Kerinci is the tallest active volcano in Southeast Asia. In the surrounding Kerinci valley, the majority of the people rely on agriculture for their family income. Our newest Sumatran offering comes from a group made up of 600 families—farmers committed to growing high quality and sustainable coffees through initiatives set up to help protect the valley’s sprawling rainforests, volcanoes, mountains, wetlands, and rivers. This lot has been honey processed, a method relatively uncommon in Sumatra, where the majority of the coffee is processed as giling basah or wet-hulled. Only ripe cherries are selectively picked and processed, then slowly and evenly dried to produce a sweet, fruity cup with highlights of pineapple, brown sugar, and lavender.
