Dear Little City friends and family,
Welcome! Little City has a new website along with new coffee subscription options! We are proud to offer you a much easier and more beautiful shopping experience and hope it will also be a resource for you to learn more about us, our partners, and coffee in general. Look for regular updates, including blog posts covering everything from sourcing trips to brewing tips as well as information, photos, and updates directly from the diverse origins and growers we work with. So please check out littlecity.com, and note that in addition to all the new content (the stuff that’s there now and the stuff that’s coming), you can also find classic blog articles from the old site.
NEW COFFEE SUBSCRIPTIONS
From the very beginning of development, one of our main goals for the new site was to offer a wide range of subscription options. Whether you are a creature of habit and want your favorite blend delivered to your door every week or would rather experience a new single-origin microlot every month, one of the below options will surely work for you. The best thing about all of them is that they will bill and ship automatically, so you never have to run out of coffee!
- Blend Subscriptions: Take all that pesky thinking out of your morning ritual with our fully customizable blend subscriptions. Just pick your favorite blend and grind preference, let us know how often you’d like it delivered, and we’ll handle the rest. Conveniently pause, cancel, or edit your subscription at any time. For your loyalty, you’ll also get a discounted price on every bag.
- Microlot Subscription: Our team travels the world to source small, unique lots of coffee directly from some of the world’s top growers. Each month you’ll receive a limited seasonal microlot representing best-of-harvest beans from our favorite origins. Learn more and subscribe here.
- Roaster’s Choice: Can’t decide? Let us pick for you. Each month we will feature a different coffee selected by yours truly along with our talented roasting team. These coffees will range from classic blends to limited seasonal offerings and will give us a chance to showcase our all-time favorites as well as what we’re working on next. MAY COFFEE SUBSCRIPTION FEATURES
Microlot: Kenya Chorongi
I first traveled to Kenya this past December to meet with potential new partners in an effort to learn more about the harvest and post-harvest production. I also wanted to better understand the value chain, trade models, and logistics involved with directly purchasing Kenyan coffee—and of course to find some really great coffees to bring to Austin. You can read more about that trip here.
During my visit and upon my return, we cupped well over 100 lots of coffee from the main harvest (Kenya has two: the main harvest from November to February and a smaller fly crop from May to July) and selected our absolute favorite from Chorongi station, a wet mill owned and operated by the Mutheka Coffee Farmer’s Society of Nyeri County. To further bolster the inherently beautiful flavors of central Kenya’s terroir, the staff at Chorongi employs excellent process management and gives careful attention to all steps of the post-harvest, allowing the mill to consistently produce top quality lots across all grades and screen sizes. Their coffees are characterized by intense sweetness and complexity showcasing bright citric acidity, juicy tropical fruit notes, savory and spicy undertones, and a full, silky body. Our staff, who taste a whole lot of coffee, are really excited about this one and some are pre-emptively declaring it the “coffee of the year.” While it’s probably a little early to crown a champion, I will agree that it’s a strong contender. Subscribe before the end of May to receive this special coffee for a discounted price, or you can purchase a la carte here.
Roaster’s Choice: Congress Avenue Blend
For our inaugural Roaster’s Choice coffee, we thought it would be appropriate to introduce our subscribers to our number one seller and our signature year-round blend. Congress Avenue, named for the historic street where Little City began, is a comforting, well-balanced blend with sweet flavors of caramel and milk chocolate designed for sipping year-round.
Currently, Congress Avenue is a blend of a washed Brazilian coffee from our good friends at Fazenda Recanto, combined with a washed Colombian from the Nasawesx community in the south of Tolima. The Brazilian coffee sets a chocolatey, sweet, and creamy base, while the Colombian provides buttery caramel notes with a refreshing pop of citric acidity. A modern take on a traditional profile, this combination is sure to please coffee lovers across a wide variety of preferences. It is the coffee embodiment of our slogan, “Everyone deserves a great cup of coffee.”
